Grants - Professional Development Support

Purpose:

To assist current ASA individual members who wish to attend a professional development opportunity related to archival activities for the year 2021-2022. During the pandemic, professional development opportunities are being offered online, so this grant is only available for the 2021-2022 in lieu of the PDTA grant.

Criteria:

The following criteria are used to establish funding priorities:

Conferences, workshops or seminars that relate directly to archives;
Conferences, workshops or seminars that relate indirectly to archives (records management, library science, museum science, historical or other allied professions)

Use of Grant:

The grant is to be used toward registration costs for professional development opportunities. These opportunites may include both those offered by ASA and non-ASA courses/conferences.

Amount:

$100 per individual member for the 2021-2022 membership year. Funding may be allocated to one or more than one professional development opportunity and the funding can cover a full registration fee or a portion of the registration fee. New application forms must be submitted for each course/conference.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be current ASA individual members residing in Alberta (or those whose permanent address is in Alberta).
Pre-approval is required for all professional development opportunities to be eligible for funding. A completed pre-approval form must be received a minimum of fourteen (14) days prior to the event.
Receipt(s) for registration must be submitted.
Grants will be paid after the completion of the activity and upon submission of receipts within thirty (30) days of the completion of the event.
Applicants are required to submit a short narrative report outlining the benefit of the professional development opportunity. Consisting of approximately 250 words, the report will include a summary of the professional development experience and its value to the applicant and his/her institution. Selected narratives may be published in the ASA Newsletter.

Deadline:

A completed Pre-approval form must be received a minimum of fourteen (14) days prior to the event.  The Grant Report form should be submitted together with the registration receipt within thirty (30) days of the completion of the event.
