This award recognizes a volunteer who is outstanding in their contributions to the member archives, who has demonstrated commitment above and beyond their role, and who makes the archives more open and inclusive for the community.

Criteria for Eligibility

Nominees must have volunteered at an ASA member institution within the 24 months prior to January 1st of the current year. 

Nominations will be considered in accordance with the following criteria:

  1. The volunteer exemplifies the spirit of community service by demonstrating initiative, leadership, and creativity in their service to an archival organization or community.
  2. The volunteer inspires others to learn about, engage with, or volunteer in the field of archives.
  3. The volunteer has undertaken special or notable projects highlighting archival collections or institutions.
  4. The volunteer provides mentorship to volunteers, researchers, or community members.
Submissions:
  1. Nominations must be written and no longer than 1000 words.  
  2. Up to one (1) supplementary letter of reference may be submitted, but is not required.
Administration of the award:
  1. The ASA Nominations and Awards Committee will accept nominations until April 30, 2025.
  2. Group nominations will not be accepted.
  3. A volunteer can only receive an award once every five years.
  4. Judges cannot consider nominations from volunteers at their home institution.
  5. Nominations are not required to meet all eligibility criteria, though judges will consider the overall impact of a volunteer’s work based on all eligibility criteria.
  6. Judging to be completed before the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the ASA.
  7. Awards will be presented at the AGM. Winners may also be announced via other ASA communication channels.
  8. One (1) award will be given each year.
