2026

Archives Week

Archives Week is held the week of June 9 each year, in collaboration with International Archives Week. The purpose of Archives Week is to provide awareness of the important work of archives and archivists

June 8 – 12, 2026

The week includes activities at archives across the province and an increased social media presence by our members. In the past, calendars and online exhibits were part of the week. Information about the activities planned for the week is forthcoming.

For 2026, Archives Week will take place June 8-12 with the theme Archives For Justice. International Archives Day takes place June 9.

More information about International Archives Week can be found here: International Council of Archives’ Archives Week. Archives across Alberta will be participating in Archives Week. Activities happening during the week will be listed here.

Athabasca Archives, Athabasca
As the Town of Athabasca counts down the weeks until the new bridge across the Athabasca River is opened on September 1st, 2026, Athabasca Archives takes a look at how we used to cross the river. The current Athabasca Bridge was opened in 1952, and it took years of lobbying and presentations to the Alberta Government to make the case for our bridge. Using newspaper clippings and the Athabasca Archives Photograph Collection, a series of articles has been put together illustrating the history of river crossings at Athabasca Landing. The first two stories, “Ice Roads and the Ferry” and “The Cage” are now available on the Athabasca Archives webpage. A third, “A Bridge is Built” will be posted soon with subsequent stories to follow this summer.
